Global warming in short means that
temperature of the planet Earth is increasing and
causes numerous damages to our environment and our
life. It is caused by emissions of carbon dioxide
and other heat-trapping gases. These gases remain in
our atmosphere for decades or even centuries. The
scientific term for this warming is called
Greenhouse Effect, green house effect is responsible
for balance of life on Earth, but excessive amount
of heat is destructive and harmful.
The profound impact rising temperatures have had in
the Arctic provides a window into a future we may
all experience. With continued warming, we can
expect more extreme heat and drought, rising sea
levels, and higher-intensity tropical storms. At
risk are our coastal property and resources, the
livability of our cities in summer, and the
productivity of our farms, forests, and fisheries.
Global warming is one of the most serious challenges
facing us today. To protect the health and economic
well-being of current and future generations, we
must reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases by
using the technology, know-how, and practical
solutions already at our disposal.
